Introducing METASAT’s Advancements at Ada-Europe (AEiC) 2024 in Barcelona

During this week, the METASAT project consortium participated at the 28th International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies (AEiC 2024) event held in Barcelona from June 11th to June 14th. Significant advancements in model-based system engineering for the space industry were showcased through the introduction of two tutorials and one session of ADEPT Workshop.

The first day, starting at 9:00a.m. CEST, our esteemed colleagues Leonidas Kosmidis from  Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Alejandro Calderón from IKERLAN, Aridane Álvarez from FENTISS, Lorenzo Lazzara from Collins Aerospace, and Eckart Göhler from OHB, introduced “METASAT: Programming High-Performance RISC-V Technologies for Space”. This tutorial explored the innovative use of RISC-V International technologies to enhance performance and reliability in space applications. This initiative aims to use these processors to address the demanding requirements of space missions and improve satellite technology.

The same day in the afternoon, following this workshop, our colleague Leonidas Kosmidis from Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), presented under the title: “Introduction to Certifiable General Purpose GPU Programming for SafetyCritical Systems”, the different challenges on GPUs and open standard technologies, specifically related to the METASAT project. 

To finish this event, on June 14th, our representatives showcased session 2  “TASTE and AADL in the METASAT Model-Based Engineering Workflow” the integration of sophisticated modeling techniques into the METASAT project. Leveraging tools like TASTE and AADL, METASAT aims to optimize the development process, ensuring the reliability and performance of satellite systems while sticking to strict engineering rules.

Taking advantage of this event, the consortium also gathered to have an internal meeting at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) facilities. This reunion was important for members to discuss recent progress, coordinate strategies, and plan next steps in their projects together.

By leveraging innovative tools and methodologies, the METASAT project continues to pave the way forward to achieve new milestones in the satellite industry, which will enhance competitiveness and reliability in space technology.
